2017 — Season 2
Jenna as Queen Victoria
Matt Smith – “She’s doing really well. She’s thoroughly prepared, has a lovely nature about her, and I think she really gets Steven’s writing. This show is about change and it’s about regeneration and the only thing you can do is move with it. So we embrace and welcome Jenna and she’s doing really well.”
Tom MacRae (Doctor Who writer) – She just had this amazing energy, she’s actually a couple of years older than Karen [Gillan] but she seems younger – she seems more of a teenager and bouncy. She’s fantastic. It’s really hard to take over from any companion that’s loved like Amy and Rory are, and she’s just going to be so different whilst still being a Doctor Who companion. It’s a very good choice from the producers.”
Arthur Darvill – “I met Jenna during the filming for Asylum of the Daleks and I think she’s brilliant,” says Darvill. “She has to be different from Amy and I think what she did in that episode was just great – I’m really intrigued. It’s so nice not knowing what’s going to happen and to be able to watch it all unfold. I think Jenna’s a really interesting actress and I reckon Matt’s going to have a great time on set with her.”
Matt Smith – “Jenna is pretty smoking. She is doing really great, coming into something so big she has done so well. I think people are going to really like her. She works incredibly hard and is incredibly detailed. She is a joy and I lucked out again. I look back to my first day and I was like a rabbit in a headlights. She is much more assured than me. But I have tried to help her into the process of making the show. It is a big lifestyle change. She will be a fantastic companion.”
David Tennat – “She’ll have a brilliant time, I’m very jealous of her starting out on that extraordinary journey, but, you know, keep your nose clean, watch your back! You’re suddenly rocketed into a world of attention, certainly unlike anything I’d known before, You just need to watch your back a little bit… But it’s wonderful. It’s such an exciting thing to be starting out on. I hope she has some good friends to hold her hand because it can be a bit scary when you get thrust into that level of attention, speaking from personal experience.” (source: Radio Times)
Matt Smith – “I was part of the audition process where we met a number of wonderful actresses. But I think Jenna responded to Steven [Moffat]’s writing in the most interesting way. We’re very excited to welcome her to the Doctor Who family.” (source: Radio Times)
